Ponce Inlet is part of Volusia County and is serviced by the county’s Votran bus system. Volusia County also manages Ponce Inlet’s white sand beaches, on which cars are not allowed.

History:

In 1513 Ponce de Leon is known to have explored the area of Ponce Inlet. The town received its name from the landholder Antonio Ponce, who once owned the land where the Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse is standing. The 100-year-old lighthouse is a national historic landmark with a 203-step ascent.

Real Estate:

Oceanfront lots are priced at $260,000 and oceanfront condominiums start at around $870,000. The median for vacant housing is about $350,000.

Attractions:

The community is an hour away from attractions like Disney World, Cape Canaveral and St. Augustine. There are many public parks in Ponce Inlet including: the 41-acre Ponce Preserve which runs from the Halifax River to the Atlantic Ocean; Timucuan Oaks Botanical Garden, which has a canoe launch into Daggett Creek; Town Hall Park, with two playgrounds; the Kay and Ayres Davies Lighthouse Park, ideally suited for picnics; and the spectacular Elbers Sunset Park, located on the river.

Climate:

An ocean breeze maintains the moderate, sub-tropical climate. The breeze helps keep the winters mild and the summers cool. The winter temperature averages around 58 to 68 degrees, and in summer the temperature is around 79 degrees.

Demographics:

The estimated population of Ponce Inlet is 3,200. The land area is 14.7 square miles of which 10.3 square miles are composed of water.
